Preparing For Spring Break

Spring break… one week of sunshine, blooming flowers, and a small reprieve from a long school semester. Spring break is the time for students to get some well-needed rest and relaxation. But with only one week off, coming up with ways to keep your hardworking students entertained while still preparing for the rest of the semester can be a struggle. So whether you're having a staycation, beach holiday, or just taking a trip down the road, here are some tips and tricks to make the most out of your spring break!

Clear Out Backpack

On the last day of school before spring break, many kids' go-to move is to just throw their backpack on the floor and forget about it until it's time to go back to school. While some teachers don't assign homework, others do :( Avoid leaving old snacks, and missing assignments scrunched up at the bottom of the bag by clearing out the backpack as soon as your student gets back from school. This is also an excellent time to throw the backpack in the washing machine and clean out all the dirt that accumulates throughout the semester.

Make a plan!

School-aged children are used to routines, so help make spring break more manageable by planning out some activities that you can do with your children. If you're going away, be sure to have an itinerary. If you're doing a staycation, organize activities like visiting a nearby museum, local library, or neighborhood park.

Let The Kids Choose

Leading on from the last point, be sure to include your children in the planning and find out what they want to do. It's their break from school, so it's good to give them some choice in how they want to spend their week off. Include them in the process when planning your spring break getaway and let them come up with activities that they want to do. If you are having a staycation, be sure to schedule some opportunities to get some fresh air!

Spring Break Travel

If you're planning on traveling a distance away from home, prepare some activities for the drive and/or flight! I would suggest getting some school work done, but no one wants to do homework on the way to vacation! Make sure you get any and all homework done before you leave for the trip so that activities can be fun things like coloring, travel games, or gaming devices.

Sun Safety

And finally… don't forget about sun safety! After the long winter wrapped up, you may forget how harsh the sun can be. Make sure to stay fully protected by wearing sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses. No one wants to get sunburnt during their time of rest and relaxation ;)
